People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. That is what PETA stands for, but apparently, they treat animals more ethically than they do people. First, let me say that I have two dogs and love animals, but I have never liked a mouse more than my friends.
PETA does good work and stands for some very good things, but who died and left them to speak for God? They are hypocrites. They don't want you to eat a steak because of the cattle that was butchered, but they think it is okay to throw paint on someone who wears a fur coat. Everyone should be entitled to their opinions, but many times PETA crosses the line.
In the Michael Vick case, what Vick did to those dogs was heinous and abusive, and Vick has gone to jail for it. I don't condone, nor am I okay with, what Vick did to those pit bulls. His career and life have been changed forever. We have all made bad mistakes, some worse than others. Vick's mistake was inexcusable and we all know that, whether you are a PETA member or not. That being said, doesn't Vick deserve a chance at remorse and forgiveness?
I hope that Vick has changed and realizes how pathetic his crime was, but I also know that he deserves forgiveness for his crime if he works for it. Vick, like anyone who goes to jail, will have served his time, and PETA needs to understand this. It’s ridiculous of PETA to suggest that Michael Vick take psychological tests before the NFL can reinstate Vick. I don't give a rat’s ass if PETA pickets the office or the stadium of whatever team decides to give Vick a chance (and make no mistake, someone will).
Who is PETA to decide that Vick needs a psych evaluation anyway? That is up to the team and the commissioner of the NFL, not PETA. They’re the ones that need to be tested if they think they have any say in the matter. How does PETA expect us to take them seriously if they show less respect for a person than they’d show to an animal? Sorry, but no animal deserves more respect than a human being. PETA does many good things, but this obsession with Vick crosses the line, and PETA loses my respect for this one. Michael Vick deserves a second chance, and PETA needs to get that in their heads.
Okay, I'm done blogging; it's time for me to go schedule my spring turkey hunt.
