Super Bowl coverage

The NFL will salute four decades of greatness during the coin toss ceremony for the Feb. 1 game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals and the Vince Lombardi Trophy presentation of Super Bowl XLIII. The coin toss will feature Roger Craig (Super Bowl XXIII, 1989), John Elway (Super Bowl XXXIII, 1999) and Lynn Swann (Super Bowl XIII, 1979). Joe Namath (Super Bowl III, 1969) will participate in the Vince Lombardi Trophy presentation.

Reaction from John Elway:

“It was a tremendous honor to be picked to do this, especially when you talk about all of the great players that have come through the NFL as well as played in the Super Bowl. To be one of the guys chosen alongside Lynn Swann, Roger Craig and Joe Namath after the game is truly a great honor,” said John Elway in an exclusive interview with Sean Salisbury on OPENSports.com.

I loved the history and thought it was a nice touch. It was also great to have the US Air crew honored as well.

I think all of the players picked for this Four Decades of Greatness this is sweet. First you have Broadway Joe Namath, Lynn Swann, Robert Craig, and Mr. Fourth quarter Magic John Elway. All of these players were great and it will be so cool to see them on an NFL field one more time!

I will never, ever forget that moment. I was in the Navy at the time and at a Super Bowl party where I was the only Broncos fan. My mom had sent me a AFC Champion shirt and I proudly wore it. I took so much ribbing until the last few moments, and boy did I ever return the favor.

The next year was just gravy, but man the first one just about brings tears to my eyes.
