Tim Tebow knows what he's doing
Posted January 11, 2009

I think it is a great decision for Tim Tebow to return to Florida for his senior season. I know -- as a quarterback -- this is the right decision by Tebow. He will get one more year to polish his passing skills and become a complete QB. He is close -- closer than most think. Tebow’s a great college QB -- one of the all time best.

His return to Florida will allow him to take one more step toward convincing NFL people that he is a NFL quarterback. I know he is. A year ago, no. Now, a year later, he is.

He’s not a pure QB because he isn't your stereotypical QB: 6-5, 225, blah, blah, blah. All that tangible measurements are overrated. Tebow has a 6-3, 240-pound body that can run. His arm is plenty strong. He is smart, tough, competitive and can run. He can take a hit and also dish one or ten out.

His accuracy has improved and he showed that he can make a big throw in traffic with accuracy. He protects the football and, most of all, he wins.

He is also just a great football player and great kid. I'm so tired of listening to haters and certain NFL people saying he may not play QB. Those experts are wrong. He does it every week in the SEC, so he can do in the NFL. He can start for 5 NFL teams right now at QB.

No doubt he can play tight end, full back, linebacker, etc. at the next level, but why would I not want a player like him with ball in his hands every play?

With great focus and coaching his senior year, his accuracy will get better. Plus, he is a good pupil; Tebow can and will be a QB in the NFL. And he will start sooner than later.

A leader and a play maker is needed at QB. Tebow has that.

I'm sure many players have been told they can't play or do certain positions or things. Tebow doesn't listen, nor should the team that drafts him as a QB in 2010.

Stay tuned. Five years from now, Tim Tebow will be winning NFL games with a QB number on his jersey.

For the time being, let's not forget he gets another year at Florida. What's not to like? He’ll be around Great co-eds, he’ll be the big man on campus, get another year of college life, another Heisman run, still gets to be a kid and, yes, a preseason No. 1 ranking with the inside shot at a repeat national title.

Don't we all wish we had those chances?

It’s a great decision by Tebow and a relief for head coach Urban Meyer, who has about 10 starters returning on defense in 2009.

It's good to be a Gator fan, I'm sure.

Having him at QB may have helped spur the 'wildcat' formations all the rage now. I know he is a tough guy but what coach wants his franchise player subject to 20+ hits a game. I know the SEC is a tough conference but the next level of the pros he has more, bigger & faster players who are just drooling to lay a hit on him. In college he can get away with it but I think it is just a metter of time. A college coach doesn't have to worry about the long term with a player 2 or 3 years max so the injury factor isn't as much of a factor either. The Lions would not have picked him overall. They need a complete overhaul. Most projections have him going in the third or fourth round if he left so it is harder to gage where he would wind up.

The Lions having the first pick had absolutely nothing to do with Tebow deciding to come back for his senior year.  While I agree with you - for many QBs that are drafted, the team that they are drafted by often dictates how much success they do (or don't) have in the NFL (see JaMarcus Russell).

Tebow would have been a 3rd rounder at best.  Hopefully he can improve his draft status next year....and maybe pick up another National Championship or Heisman along the way.

I agree. If I was Tebow or any other player I would not want to go to Detroit.

First I know I'm not an expert on reading who will or who won't make it to the NFL. I was sure Tim Couch would make a great pro quarterback in the NFL. I still think the team that picks you has as much to do with your sucess as your talent. This might be more true for QB's and RB's than other spots on the team. The Cleveland Browns had one of the worse offensive lines in the NFL when Couch was drafted. Had he been drafted by a team like New England or the New York Giants, teams that give their QB time to throw without scrambling all the time, well he might still be in the League. I just think the team that drafts Tebow will have a lot to do with his sucess. Does the fact that the Lions have first pick have anything to do with Tebow's decision. Just saying.
