Nothing but Nets

Each week I’ll be bringing you the most significant injuries in the NBA that will affect your fantasy lineup in hopes that you can make the necessary adjustments and not bomb in your league. Remember, there’s nothing worse than having a guy in your lineup with a broken bone. I present you with Lexi’s Limpers.

I’m going to break away from my usual format and try something different this week. There seems to be a proverbial elephant in the room and it goes by the name of the New Jersey Nets. If the Department of Homeland Security let the NBA adopt its Advisory System, minus the whole terrorist theme, the Nets would be at orange right about now. Why not red you ask? Well, 0-17 is bad, but it’s not 0-20 bad. In their defense, the Nets also have a plethora of injuries that are keeping some of their best players sidelined and if they do play, their performance is not up to par.

Guard Courtney Lee (groin) is questionable for Tuesday’s matchup against the Nuggets. If he does in fact play, then it will be a huge help for his team that has seemingly lost all faith in humanity (I’m dramatic, what can I say). Fantasy owners of Lee shouldn’t jump the gun and put him back in your starting lineups just yet. You’ll want a definite answer from the team concerning whether or not Lee will actually play. You might also want to keep him benched for a game if he does play, just so you can see him in action.

Center Brook Lopez sprained his ankle in practice on Monday night, so there’s that. While head coach Lawrence Frank said the injury didn’t require X-rays, he is considering Lopez day-to-day and wouldn’t say for sure if he would play against the Nuggets on Tuesday.

The other Asian in the NBA not named Yao Ming has been sidelined for a few weeks now and isn’t expected to return until the end of November, maybe. There has been no concrete timeline for the return of Yi Jianlian (knee) and the uncertainty isn’t very comforting to his fantasy owners. If you haven’t already, you may want to cut Yi from your team if you have the means of picking up a suitable replacement, or just keep him on IR.

The good news for New Jersey fans and fantasy owners is that point guard Devin Harris returned after injuring his groin and has been back for one game. The bad news is it doesn’t matter – for the Nets, anyway. Harris posted 12 points, seven assists and two steals in his first game back which isn’t too bad for his fantasy owners, if they played him. The Nets go on a four-game western road trip and could possibly face returning to their coast with an 0-17 record and they will be one step closer to threat level red.

The Nets are garbage. Fitting that they come from New Jersey.
