Here's a quick look at the Patriots/Saints matchup with a bit of a fantasy twist.

Game recap: Nearly 24 years to the date, an unbeaten Chicago Bears team went into Miami on Monday Night Football and came away with their first loss of the season against a Dolphins team which had been the only team to have ever gone unbeaten in the regular season. Monday's game featured the last team to run the table in the NFL, the New England Patriots, against the 11-0 New Orleans Saints in the Louisiana Superdome. However, this game did not live up to its immense pre-game hype and the Saints ran roughshod all over coach Bill Belichick's defense. Perhaps he was warranted in going for it on 4th and 2 a couple of weeks back in Indianapolis, as these guys couldn't stop anyone.

The game actually finished with Pats backup QB Brian Hoyer mopping up for Tom Brady, who was confused and frustrated all evening by the Saints busy defense. Meanwhile, QB Drew Brees and the Saints high-octane offense had their way, moving the ball at will. It's hard to see anyone but themselves stopping this team.

Fantasy stud(s): Drew Brees, QB, NO -- Marques Colston, WR, NO -- Devery Henderson, WR, NO:  The fantasy studs all come from the Saints in this one, as Brees tossed five TDs passes, including three alone in the second quarter. He finished 18-of-23 for 371 yards with no INTs and his scoring strikes were to five different receivers. Colston gathered four receptions for 121 yards and a 20-yard TD and he had an impressive 68-yard pass and catch with Brees. Meanwhile, Henderson ended up with three grabs for 116 yards, including a marvelous 75-yard score. Honorable mention goes to WR Robert Meachem of the Saints, who found the end zone for the fourth consecutive game. He has five TDs during the impressive span and has emerged as a must-start in most fantasy formats. Patriots RB Laurence Maroney was about the only fantasy player of note for the Pats, as he had 15 carries for 64 yards and a pair of rushing TDs.

Fantasy dud: Wes Welker, WR, NE -- six receptions, 32 yards -- two carries, 14 yards: Welker's six receptions actually ties a season-low set back in Week 4 against Baltimore in his first game back after missing two contests due to injury. He has at least six grabs or more in all nine of his games this season, but this was by far the most disappointing of all of his games. In fact, he has had fewer than 32 yards in just four of his past 36 games dating back to 2007.

Injuries: Saints DB Randall Gay was forced the leave the game with an apparent leg injury and he was unable to return. For the Patriots, LB Tully Banta-Cain suffered a shoulder injury while DL Vince Wilfork suffered an undisclosed lower body injury, either to his left ankle or foot, although it didn't appear serious. DL Ty Warren also rolled his right ankle and missed a little time, but he was able to make it back. On the offensive side of the ball, the only injury of note was Saints RB Mike Bell who suffered a stinger in the second quarter. He was able to return and finish the game, closing it out strongly in the fourth quarter.

Let me introduce you to: Sam Aiken, WR, NE -- Aiken has been heard from before, but not much on the national stage. He posted a game-high seven receptions for a team-best 90 yards, including a 33-yard reception. While fantasy owners shouldn't clamor to pick him up any time soon, he is someone to consider should Welker or Randy Moss ever have an injury which makes them inactive.

Stat of the day: Brees became the first opposing QB to throw three TDs in a quarter against a Bill Belichick coached team with his three scoring strikes in the second quarter. He is also just one of three QBs, joining Eli Manning (2007) and Peyton Manning (2003, 2009) to throw four or more TDs in a game against a Belichick team.

Rookie look: Thomas Morstead, P, NO: Since you never get to see very much of the Saints punter, we figured we'd let you know who he is. The rookie out of SMU was called on just three times, averaging 30 yards with a high of 50 yards.

Defense/Special teams: There were no defensive scores in this game by the Saints, but it certainly felt like it. The black and gold was flying all over the field, led by LB Jonathan Vilma with eight solo tackles, an assist and a tackle for loss. DL Will Smith also racked up 1.5 sacks and four solo tackles. The Saints allowed just 17 points and 366 total net yards, while the Patriots were gouged for 38 points and 480 total net yards. LB Brandon Meriweather was the bright spot for the Pats, as he normally is. He had six solo tackles and two assists and remains a monster in fantasy leagues which use individual defensive players (IDPs). Adalius Thomas was the only Patriots player to record a sack.

Look ahead: The Patriots, who have now failed in their past two Prime Time marquee games, will try and bounce back in Week 13 at Miami in a very important AFC East Division battle. Meanwhile, the Saints will march into Washington looking to keep their record unblemished.

Things you didn’t know: Brady became the all-time career passer for the Patriots in this game, as he needed just 163 yards to surpass Drew Bledsoe's (1993-2001) club mark of 29,657 yards. Brady will need just 268 yards in Week 13 in Miami to hit 30,000 for his career. He also needs just 248 yards to pass Randall Cunningham for 30th place on the all-time passing yardage list.

Final thought: This game was disappointing, as the Patriots certainly didn't put up a great fight. I started wishing halfway through the second quarter that this was Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts against Brees instead. What a matchup that would be. Actually, we might see that in Super Bowl XLIV in Miami on Feb. 7, 2010.
