Quarterbacks
Brees goes for 330 yards, TD
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees completed 24-of-35 passes for 330 yards, one TD and one INT in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers and their No. 1 ranked pass defense.
Analysis: Well, Brees did fairly well despite the difficult matchup on paper, although he managed just the one score. He should produce a much better overall stat line for his fantasy owners in a favorable matchup in Week 10 at St. Louis.
Rivers throws for three scores
San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 24-of-36 passes for 209 yards, three TDs and two INTs in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants. Rivers also had a 15-yard scamper on his only carry of the game.
Analysis: Rivers has at least one TD throw in seven of his eight starts this season, including 11 TDs over his past five games. The INTs were rare, as he entered play with just one pick over his past five starts. He is a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against the Eagles.
Schaub decent in loss at Indy
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub completed 32-of-43 passes for 311 yards, one TD and two INT in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis. He also carried three times for 21 yards, actually gaining more than now backup RB Steve Slaton.
Analysis: Schaub was missing TE Owen Daniels (knee) and it showed, as the tight end was not a part of this offense at all. Schaub and the Texans are off in Week 10 before returning to action on Monday Night Football in Week 11 against the lowly Titans. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues for that matchup.
P. Manning gets back on the board
Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning completed 34-of-50 passes for 318 yards, one TD and no INT in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans after being held without a TD strike last Sunday.
Analysis: Manning remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues. He'll face a huge test on Sunday Night Football in Week 10 against the New England Patriots in a good one.
E. Manning throws for two scores
New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 25-of-33 passes for 215 yards, two TDs and no INTs in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers.
Analysis: The Giants are in a freefall, losing four straight after starting out 5-0. They'll try and figure it all out during their bye in Week 10 before returning to face the Falcons and their awful pass defense.
Brady throws for 332 yards, TD
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 25-of-37 passes for 332 yards, one TD and one INT in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins. He also had a successful two-point conversion pass. Brady passed Drew Bledsoe for the team record with his 27th 300-yard passing game.
Analysis: Brady has been passing for plenty of yardage, but the lack of TD passes likely rankled fantasy owners once again. He remains a solid fantasy play in Week 10 at Indianapolis despite facing a tremendous pass defense.
Delhomme passes for 201 yards, no TDs
Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme completed 17-of-30 passes for 201 yards, no TDs and no INT in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans. He also carried twice for minus-6 yards and he had a lost fumble.
Analysis: Delhomme has turned the ball over just once in the past two games after being picked off 13 times and fumbling the ball away twice times in the first six games. He is still not doing enough offensively to warrant using in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Atlanta, although the Falcons do struggle against the pass.
Henne throws for 219 yards in loss
Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne completed 19-of-34 passes for 219 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England. The biggest gaffe of the day came late in the fourth quarter when he called for a timeout when the team had none, drawing a five-yard delay of game penalty. Shades of Chris Webber for the former University of Michigan signal caller.
Analysis: Henne and the Dolphins will go back to the drawing board and try and come up with some more trick plays to fool the Buccaneers in Week 10. However, Henne is not worth using in most fantasy leagues unless you're in a deeper format which requires two starting QBs.
Romo goes for over 300 yards again
Cowboys QB Tomy Romo passed for over 300 yards for the fourth time this season in Sunday’s win over the Eagles. He was 21 of 34 passing for 307 yards, one touchdown and his first interception since Week 4.
Analysis: Romo continues to be an elite fantasy QB week in and week out despite his interception. He only has five on the year and three of them came in Week 2. Needless to say, continue to start him every week.
McNabb throws two picks in loss
Eagles QB Donovan McNabb was 16 of 30 for 227 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: McNabb struggled a bit Sunday and barely connected 50 percent of his passes. However, he still has just three interceptions on the year, so don’t let this hold you back from playing him week to week.
Stafford throws 5 picks
Lions rookie QB Matthew Stafford was 22 of 42 for 203 yards, two touchdowns and a whopping five interceptions – including one that was return for a game-icing touchdown – in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Considering that Stafford now has 12 interceptions on the year and just five touchdown passes, it wouldn’t be a good idea to start him next Week against the Vikings.
Hasselbeck has first 300-yard game
Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck had his first 300-yard passing game of the season, going 39 of 51 for 329 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday’s come-from-behind win over the Lions.
Analysis: Hasselbeck has been a mid-round delight for owners this season and faces a favorable matchup against a suspect Cardinals secondary in Week 10.
Cassel throws for season high
Chiefs QB Matt Cassel was 23 of 39 for season-high 262 yards and two touchdown passes in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. Both his TD passes went to WR Chris Chambers.
Analysis: Cassel had arguably his best game the same week the team add Chambers. That may not just be a coincidence. Next week he faces the lowly Raiders, which would be a could game to start him on your fantasy team.
Garrard throw for over 250
Jaguars QB David Garrard was 18 of 27 for 264 yards and one touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Garrard had a fairly decent game – nothing that will have anyone flabbergasted. He still has just six touchdown passes on the season, so facing the Jets in Week 9 doesn’t make him an appealing fantasy option at all.
Ryan has eight INTs in last four games
Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 17-of-24 passes for 135 yards, one TD and one INT in his teams win over the Redskins in Week 9.
Analysis: The Falcons will face the top-ranked Carolina secondary in Week 10 and Ryan struggled against Washington’s pass defense. He will need to step up his game.
Campbell got manhandled in loss to Falcons
Redskins QB Jason Campbell (ankle, chest) was sacked five times and was taken out of the game on two separate occasions but returned to finish with 196 yards, one TD and one INT on 15-of-22 passing.
Analysis: Campbell rarely looked downfield and had terrible presence in the pocket. His team hosts the Broncos in Week 10 and they have the No. 1 ranked overall defense. Not an easy matchup for Campbell and the ‘Skins.
Flacco throws two picks
Joe Flacco completed 18 of 32 passes for 195 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions at Cincinnati Sunday.
Analysis: Flacco’s franchise record for consecutive completions ended at 14. The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night, which makes Flacco a solid fantasy starter once again.
One TD pass for Palmer vs. BAL
Carson Palmer completed 20 of 33 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown Sunday against Baltimore.
Analysis: Palmer’s outing wasn’t bad, considering the defense, but it wasn’t a great fantasy outing in general. Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10.
Warner throws five TD passes
Leinart yanked as reliever Sunday
Kurt Warner threw five TD passes at Chicago Sunday, and he didn’t throw an interception. He completed 22 of 32 passes. He took a seat for a short time in the second half, when the Cardinals thought they had the game in hand, but Mat Leinart threw an interception that forced Warner back in the game. Warner obviously shook off his five-interception game last week.
Analysis: Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. Warner threw for 276 yards and two TDs against the ‘Hawks in Week 6.
Analysis: Leinart’s only pass was intercepted. Those wondering if it was time to see if he was ready for an Alex Smith- or Vince Young-type breakout – No.
Cutler throws 47 times vs. ARI
Jay Cutler threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns while completing 29 of 47 passes against Arizona Sunday. He was sacked four times for the second straight week and he took off his helmet and took a knee after getting shaken up on a hit early in the third quarter. He was able to walk to the sidelines though.
Analysis: Cutler remains a solid fantasy starter. The Bears play at San Francisco in Week 10, which isn’t a horrible matchup for him.
Bucs harass Rodgers for six sacks
Aaron Rodgers completed 17 of 35 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns, but he did throw three interceptions, at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Rodgers was sacked six times, and forced to hurry many other passes. He’s a solid start once again though, in Week 10, against the Cowboys in Green Bay.
Rookie QB Freeman throws three TDs
Josh Freeman completed 14 of 31 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns against Green Bay Sunday. Freeman was the first rookie QB to throw three TD passes in his first start since Tony Banks did it in 1996.
Analysis: Don’t go running to sign Freeman just yet. He certainly looked poised and comfortable, at one point hitting Sammie Stroughter in the corner of the end zone after a double-pumped pass. For seasonal leagues, he’s not worth picking up for Week 10 at Miami.
VY leads Titans to second win
It may not have been pretty but Tennessee QB Vince Young helped his team to its second win of the season in Week 9 against San Fran. Young was 12-of-19 for 172 yards and had five carries for 14 yards and a score as the Titans won 34-27.
Analysis: Young didn’t make any mistakes in this game, which is a good sign for Tennessee fans. In deep leagues Young could be a nice pickup for you down the stretch if your main QB gets some time off because his team has the playoffs locked up.
QB Smith throws three picks in loss
San Francisco QB Alex Smith showed some goods signs on Sunday against Tennessee, but ended the game on the losing end. He threw for 286 yards, two TDs and three INTs in Week 9.
Analysis: If you drafted QB Shaun Hill chances are you dumped him and grabbed Smith. While his three picks are disheartening, not all of them were his fault. Besides he still put up good fantasy numbers, but should only be started in deep leagues.
Running backs
McCoy pulls double duty for Eagles
Eagles rookie RB LeSean McCoy led the team in rushing and receiving in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, rushing 13 times for 54 yards and catching five passes for 61 yards.
Analysis: With RB Brian Westbrook out, McCoy took advantage of the opportunity despite not scoring. He remains a good FLEX option from week to week, especially with Westbrook out. With his rushing and receiving skills, he definitely looks like the Westbrook of the future at this point.
Barber leads team in carries
Cowboys RB Marion Barber rushed 12 times for 50 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Barber has been a good No. 2 RB since returning from injury in Week 4, averaging about 50 yards rushing per game, but has had just two TDs since then. He faces a decent Packers defense in Week 10.
Choice scores TD in win
Despite having just three carries for 13 yards in Sunday’s win over the Eagles, Cowboys RB Tashard Choice did score a touchdown from the Wildcat formation from two yards out in the first quarter.
Analysis: With Marion Barber and Felix Jones back, the Cowboys have no choice but to cut Choice’s touches, which makes a non-viable fantasy option from here forward despite his third TD of the season.
Weaver sees extended action again
Eagles RB Leonard Weaver had eight carries for the second week in a row, amassing 33 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Weaver rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Giants, but once Westbrook return, don’t expect him to get eight carries again. He’s not a viable fantasy option anyway.
Julius Jones has big day receiving
Seahawks RB Julius Jones had 16 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Lions. However, he was most impressive through the air with six receptions for 78 yards, which led his team.
Analysis: Despite amassing over 100 total yards, this is the first time since Week 1 he’s had a rushing touchdown and first time since Week 3 he’s scored period. If you do play him on your team, he should be nothing more than a third RB or FLEX option.
Kevin Smith gets 13 carries
Lions RB Kevin Smith had 13 carries for 67 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. He also added two receptions for nine yards.
Analysis: Smith hasn’t scored a TD since he had two back in Week 4. He faces a tough Vikings defense coming up, but he rushed for 83 yards against them back in Week 2, so play him at your own risk.
Morris gets just four carries
Lions RB Maurice Morris had four carries for 20 yards and two receptions for 17 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks, where he spent the first seven years of his career.
Analysis: With his 14-carry, 63-yard performance last week some people though Morris would be seeing more carries this week. That was obviously erroneous, so expect much of the same from here on out.
DeAngelo Williams has another big day
Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams carried 21 times for 149 yards and two TDs in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans. He also had two receptions for 12 yards and nearly had a third score on the team's last offensive play before being hit and dropping the pass. On a negative note, Williams lost a fumble late in the fourth quarter which the Saints D scooped up for a score.
Analysis: Williams remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues despite the fact the Panthers are struggling overall on the offensive side of the ball. Williams has carried 80 times for 548 yards and five TDs over his past four games. The Panthers host the Falcons in Week 10.
Pierre Thomas hits paydirt
New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas carried 13 times for 50 yards and a TD in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers. He also added five receptions for 31 yards.
Analysis: Thomas remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues. He should post an even better stat line in Week 10 at St. Louis against the lowly Rams.
J-Stew struggles against Saints
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart carried 13 times for 24 yards in Sunday's Week 9 game at New Orleans and he managed just one reception for 14 yards. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Stewart had been performing extremely well lately, so he was due to a stinker. He remains a solid No. 3 fantasy RB or 'flex' option heading into Week 10 against the Falcons.
LT2 totals just 30 yards
San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson carried 12 times for 22 yards and he added just two receptions for eight yards in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: No one did much of anything on the ground against the Giants stout rush defense, but the Chargers still find a way to win. LT2 will face another difficult matchup against the Eagles in Week 10, but at least the game is at home. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
Not this time for Ronnie Brown
Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown returned to the scene of the crime in Week 9 at New England where the Wildcat was born and he went off with five total TDs last season. He carried 15 times for just 48 yards and he had two receptions for 16 more yards. He was able to throw a one-yard passing TD, however.
Analysis: Brown only tricked the Patriots once on this day, as they were mostly wise to the gadget plays on Sunday. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against the Buccaneers, a team which has a very poor rushing defense.
Maroney rolls for 82 yards, TD
New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney carried 20 times for 82 yards and a TD in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins. He did not have any receptions.
Analysis: LoMo was outstanding, finding the end zone for a second straight game in place of the injured Sammy Morris (knee). He is a solid low-end No. 2 fantasy RB or No. 3 back heading into Week 10 at Indianapolis if Morris is sidelined again.
B-Jake runs for 67 yards
New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs carried 11 times for 67 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers and he had one catch for one yard.
Analysis: Jacobs has managed just one TD over the past six games and two scores overall this season. He is more of a No. 2 fantasy RB in most formats, although you'll need a replacement with the G-Men off in Week 10.
Ricky Williams totals 36 yards, score
Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams carried seven times for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 9 loss in New England and he also added a catch for three yards.
Analysis: The Patriots were mostly wise to the Wildcat formation and other trick plays the Dolphins had designed this season, so the offense was mostly stifled for Miami. Williams remains a solid No. 2 or 3 fantasy option heading into Week 10 against the Buccaneers who have an awful rushing defense.
Bradshaw good for 66 total yards
New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) carried 14 times for 39 yards and he added three receptions for 27 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers.
Analysis: Bradshaw didn't practice much during the week, but he didn't appear to show any ill-effects of the injury which has bothered him all season. He remains a solid No. 2 or 3 fantasy RB or 'flex' option heading into Week 11 against Atlanta once the team returns from a bye.
Sproles manages 23 yards
San Diego Chargers RB Darren Sproles carried just once for one yard and he added five receptions for 22 yards in Sunday's Week 9 at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Sproles remains a solid No. 3 or 4 fantasy RB or 'flex' option in all leagues in Week 10 against the Eagles.
Mike Bell sees just five touches
New Orleans Saints RB Mike Bell carried just five times for 17 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against Carolina. He did not have any receptions.
Analysis: Bell was poor from a fantasy perspective, but he remains a solid No. 3 or 4 RB or 'flex' option heading into Week 10 at St. Louis in a favorable matchup.
Reggie Bush totals 53 yards
New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush carried twice for 16 yards and he had a game-high seven receptions for 37 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers.
Analysis: Bush failed to get into the end zone for the first time in four games dating back to Week 4 against the Jets. Despite being blanked, he remains a solid No. 3 fantasy RB or 'flex' option heading into Week 10 at St. Louis, especially in leagues which reward points per reception (PPR).
Ryan Moats starts, does little
Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak gave RB Ryan Moats the start in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis and he carried 16 times for 38 yards. Moats also had three receptions for 15 yards and a TD, but he lost a fumble too.
Analysis: The fumble is the reason Moats is in there and Steve Slaton is out. Don't expect this promotion to last, as Moats is not an every-down back. The Texans have off in Week 10 before returning to action against Tennessee. It's purely speculation, but look for the more talented Slaton to be back atop the depth chart by then.
Slaton come off the bench, see nine touches
Houston Texans RB Steve Slaton did not start in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis, but he did carry six times for 17 yards and a TD. He also had three receptions for 12 yards.
Analysis: Slaton was lifted last week in Buffalo in favor of Ryan Moats who got the start because of Slaton's fumbling problems. Moats coughed one up in this one, so it's not likely to be a permanent demotion. The Texans are off in Week 10 before returning in Week 11 against the Titans on Monday Night Football.
Addai totals 112 yards, two TDs
Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai carried 14 times for 63 yards and a TD in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Texans. He also had five receptions for 49 yards and a score.
Analysis: Addai has been the man with rookie RB Donald Brown (shoulder) inactive over the past two games. It's unlikely when Brown is healthy that coach Jim Caldwell will take touches away from Addai, as he has been too effective. Addai remains a solid No. 2 fantasy starter heading into Week 10 against New England.
Colts declare RB Brown inactive
The Indianapolis Colts have declared RB Donald Brown (shoulder) inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game against Houston.
Analysis: With Brown out again, Joseph Addai is expected to handle a lion's share of the carries. Chad Simpson and Mike Hart are likely to serve as his backups, but their touches will be limited. Keep Brown reserved in all leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in one full game.
Sammy Morris OUT for Week 9
The New England Patriots declared RB Sammy Morris (knee) OUT for Sunday's Week 9 game against the Dolphins. Laurence Maroney is expected to get the start in his absence.
Analysis: No real surprise here, as Morris has not made any progress this week and had been thought to be out mid-week. Maroney will have BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Kevin Faulk behind him against the Miami defense, but Maroney is the best fantasy play of the triumvirate.
Westbrook likely to be inactive
According to Jay Glazer on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show, Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (concussion) is likely to be rested again in Week 9 against the Cowboys. Westbrook had been medically cleared and coach Andy Reid sounded positive Westy would be able to go.
Analysis: Westbrook is a risky fantasy play in all leagues, especially since he doesn't go until 8:30pm ET when there will be few late alternatives. Rookie LeSean McCoy might get his second straight start if the Eagles have truly flip-flopped on Westbrook's health and long-term concerns.
MJD flirts with century mark
Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew had 29 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Cheifs.
Analysis: MJD is living up to his billing as a top-four overall fantasy pick with 11 rushing TDs on the season. He faces a tough Jets rush defense next week, but that still doesn’t mean you should sit him.
Charles not given many carries in start
Cheifs RB Jamaal Charles had just six carries for 36 yards and caught three passes for 19 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: With Larry Johnson suspended, Charles was supposed to get the bulk of the carries. However, the Chiefs decided to pass the ball 39 times as the trailed for practically the entire game. Charles isn’t really a starting fantasy RB, unless you want to roll the dice when he plays a terrible Oakland rush defense next week.
Kolby Smith sees action in first game
Chiefs RB Koly Smith, who was activated from the PUP list Saturday, had four carries for 17 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. He also caught one pass for four yards.
Analysis: Even without Larry Johnson in the lineup, Smith had just five touches all game. So there’s no reason for him to be on any fantasy team going forward.
Backup Jennings gets first TD of season
Jaguars backup RB Rashad Jennings had two carries in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs, including one that that went for a 28 yards touchdown – his first of the season. His other rushing attempt went for just one yard.
Analysis: Despite his touchdown, Jennings isn’t really a fantasy option as proven by the fact that he has just 20 carries on the year, while starter Maurice Jones-Drew had 29 today alone.
Turner exploded in win over Redskins
Falcons RB Michael Turner racked up 166 yards and two TDs on 18 carries, including two catches for 14 yards in Atlanta’s beating of the Redskins in Week 9.
Analysis: Turner has been on fire against top ranked run defenses and looks to be a favorable matchup against the Panthers in Week 10.
Portis leaves game with concussion
Redskins RB Clinton Portis left Sunday’s game in the first quarter after sustaining a concussion and did not return. He had just four yards on four carries prior to leaving the game.
Analysis: After battling injuries all season, Portis could likely miss the game against Denver in Week 10.
Betts finds end zone from goal line
Washington RB Ladell Betts ran for 70 yards on 15 carries and got one TD from a third-quarter goal-line carry.
Analyis: Betts saw some decent playing time with Portis out of the game, but the Week 10 matchup against Denver is not favorable for him.
Derrick Ward catches TD pass
Derrick Ward caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown against Green Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Ward is still the Bucs’ third-down back, although he did see some goal line action as well. He’s only worth owning in larger leagues at this point.
Cadillac held to just 56 yards
Cadillac Williams rushed 16 times for 56 yards against Green Bay Sunday. He was thrown to three times, but could not make any of the catches.
Analysis: Williams will get the start once again in Week 10 at Miami. He’s worth looking at as a RB3 or flex option.
Ryan Grant comes close to 100-yard mark
Ryan Grant rushed 21 times for 96 yards and a touchdown at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Grant has rushed for more than 100 yards only once so far this season, but he’s still one of very few running backs that are considered the team’s sole option carrying the ball. Start him as an RB2 in Week 10 against Dallas.
Forte a force in passing game only
Matt Forte rushed five times for 33 yards, but he did catch six passes for 74 yards against Arizona Sunday.
Analysis: Forte was thrown to eight times, third most on the team. The Bears play at San Francisco in Week 10 and the Niners got torched by Chris Johnson Sunday.
Wells splits carries with Hightower again
Hightower leads Cards in rushing
Chris “Beanie” Wells rushed 13 times for 72 yards at Chicago Sunday, while Tim Hightower rushed 15 times for 77 yards. The latter also caught one pass for 11 yards.
Analysis: Neither running back scored, but Hightower’s home run ability – and hands out of the backfield – keeps him on the field many times. Both are working well together and considered decent RB2 in most 12-team leagues. Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10.
Rice with 135 yards from scrimmage
Ray Rice rushed 12 times for 48 yards and a touchdown, and he caught a game-high eight passes for 87 yards.
Analysis: Rice would most likely be a top-five draft pick if your league restarted now. The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night.
Benson goes over 100 yards again
Cedric Benson eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season against Baltimore. He rushed 34 times for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Benson and Jerome Bettis (2005) are the only two players to rush for 100 yards against the Ravens twice in one season. Benson continues to be a monster from a fantasy perspective. He has already rushed for more yards this season than he did last year. Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10.
Johnson rambles for a buck-35
Tennessee RB Chris Johnson rushed the ball 25 times for 135 yards and two TDs in the Titans second-straight win on Sunday in San Francisco.
Analysis: Johnson has discovered he is still a great RB in this league. In the last two weeks he’s rushed for 363 yards and four TDs. This is the back you thought you were getting when you drafted him in the first or early second round of your fantasy draft. Hopefully it’s not too late for you in your quest for the fantasy league crown.
RB White has no bite in Week 9
Tennessee RB LenDale White had just three yards on four carries in the Titans win on Sunday over the 49ers.
Analysis: White lost a lot of weight in the offseason by not drinking tequila. Maybe he should start up again and put that weight back on as he has just one TD this season. As of right now White is no longer a No. 2 fantasy RB option or even flex position player.
Gore turns it up a notch
RB Frank Gore had 83 yards rushing and a TD in Sunday’s loss to the Titans at Candlestick Park. He also had seven catches for 75 yards.
Analysis: Gore has gone through stages this season -- TDs in Week’s 1 and 2; poor performance that knocked him out for two games; another poor outing in Week 7 before finding his grove the last two weeks. For Gore owners, keep starting him even though they take on the Chicago Bears next week.
Not much Coffee on Sunday
Rookie RB Glen Coffee had one carry for four yards in San Francisco’s Week 9 loss to Tennessee.
Analysis: Coffee is a handcuff for Gore. He filled in this season, but as a rookie hasn’t put up Gore-like numbers. His fantasy value is low right now, but could go up if anything happens to Gore.
Wide receivers
Austin makes most of his one catch
Cowboys WR Miles Austin had just one catch in Sunday’s win over the Eagles, but took it for a 49-yard touchdown.
Analysis: Austin has now caught a TD pass in four straight games and remains a must-start, despite only being targeted four times against the Eagles. However, he faces a potentially tough matchup against a solid Packers secondary in Week 10.
Roy Williams making his case as No. 1 WR
Cowboys WR Roy Williams had five receptions for a game-high 75 yards in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Williams hasn’t has a 100-yard game this season and hasn’t topped 75 yards since Week 3. He’s been a fantasy disappointment to say the least, but his performance Sunday may be a step in the right direction – or a step toward decent trade value. In other words, trade him now while his value is increased or play him at your own risk against the Packers in Week 10.
Rookie Maclin has three receptions
Eagles rookie WR Jeremy Maclin caught three passes for 44 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Maclin has been fairly inconsistent since his Week 5 breakout against Tampa, but if you’re thin at WR, his potential should be good enough for your team.
Crayton catches two passes in win
Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton caught two passes for 74 yards in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Crayton amassed his most receiving yards since Week 1 and has caught just two touchdowns on the season. At this point he’s the Cowboys fourth receiving option at best, so playing him isn’t recommended unless you’re hampered by injuries or are thin at WR.
Calvin Johnson has just two receptions
Lions WR Calvin Johnson caught just two passes for 27 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. It was his first game back since the first quarter of a Week 5 loss to the Steelers – when he injured his knee.
Analysis: It looks like Megatron was a bit rusty. However, if you own him on your fantasy team, you shouldn’t be too worried about it for that same reason. He’s a superstar and you know it, so he’ll definitely be making his way back, especially if Matthew Stafford has a good game.
Housh catches 3rd TD as Seahawk
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught his third touchdown as a Seahawks in Sunday’s win over the Lions. He finished with six receptions for 34 yards on the day.
Analysis: Despite only three touchdowns on the season, Housh makes a decent No. 2 WR, especially when QB Matt Hasselbeck is on point. He faces a favorable matchup against a suspect Cards secondary in Week 10.
Burleson has 75 yards
Seahawks WR Nate Burleson caught seven passes for 75 yards in Sunday’s win over the Lions.
Analysis: Burleson has been a pretty decent No. 2 or No. 3 WR, averaging 70 receiving yards per game. If he gets more looks in the red zone, his value is sure to increase. He faces a favorable matchup against a suspect Cardinals secondary in Week 10.
Bryant Johnson grabs 2nd TD of season
Lions WR Bryant Johnson had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: The Lions’ other Johnson was actually more productive with two catches than Calvin Johnson, who also had two catches. Don’t read too much into it though. This is Bryant’s first game with a TD since Week 3 and he hasn’t topped three receptions since – even with No. 1 Johnson out. So he doesn’t really warrant a spot on your team.
Andre Johnson goes over 100
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson had 10 receptions for 103 yards in Sunday's Week 9 game at Indianapolis, although he did not get into the end zone.
Analysis: Johnson did not appear to be bothered despite more double teams with TE Owen Daniels (knee) out of action. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues, although you'll need an alternative in Week 10 with the Texans on a bye. However, Week 11 against the Titans will be a very favorable matchup, as Tennessee's pass defense is awful.
Randy Moss goes for 147 yards, TD
New England Patriots WR Randy Moss reeled in six receptions for 147 yards and a TD in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins, his 63rd career 100-yard performance. He also had a successful two-point conversion reception.
Analysis: Moss has posted 19 catches for 345 yards and four TDs over the past three games. Needless to say, he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 at Indianapolis.
Reggie Wayne mostly held in check
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne had eight receptions for 64 yards in Sunday's Week 9 victory against the Texans and he did not find the end zone.
Analysis: It was a rather average performance for Wayne from a fantasy perspective. He'll face another fairly difficult matchup in Week 10 against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football.
V-Jack gets into end zone twice
San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson had five receptions for 58 yards and a pair of scores in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants. He had the game-winning grab with :21 left in regulation to give the Bolts a 21-20 win.
Analysis: Jackson now has seven TDs in eight games this season and he has at least one score in four straight starts (five TDs total). He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Philadelphia.
Colston struggles vs. Panthers
New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston posted just one reception for 45 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers. He was targeted six times and had several uncharacteristic drops, including one in the end zone.
Analysis: Colston will look to bounce back in Week 10 at St. Louis in a very favorable matchup. Despite the struggles on Sunday, he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
Welker good for nine receptions
New England Patriots WR Wes Welker managed nine receptions for 84 yards in Sunday's Week 9 game against the Dolphins, although he was held out of the end zone for the first time since Week 4.
Analysis: Welker has eight or receptions in five of his six games this season and at least 84 receiving yards in five of those contests. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 at Indianapolis.
Panthers' Steve Smith goes for 64 yards
Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith had four receptions for 64 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans. He actually had just three grabs for 18 yards until a late big gainer on the final drive.
Analysis: Smith failed to get into the end zone for the seventh time in eight games. Despite the lack of TDs, Smith remains a low-end No. 1 fantasy WR or must-start No. 2 in all leagues heading into Week 10 against Atlanta.
Giants' Steve Smith posts eight grabs, TD
New York Giants WR Steve Smith posted a game-high eight receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers.
Analysis: Smith found the end zone for the first time in five game dating back to Week 4 in Kansas City when he scored twice. Make other plans for a fantasy receiver in Week 10, as the Giants are off on their bye.
Meachem has 98 yards, TD
New Orleans Saints WR Robert Meachem had five receptions for 98 yards and a score in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers. However, he was forced to leave the game late due to an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Assuming he is healthy, Meachem is worth considering as a No. 3 or 4 fantasy WR or 'flex' option in deeper leagues heading into Week 10 at St. Louis.
Devery Henderson posts 93 yards
New Orleans Saints WR Devery Henderson totaled three receptions for 93 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers, including a season-long 63-yard grab.
Analysis: Despite the solid yardage total, Henderson is still only worth considering as a No. 4 fantasy WR in leagues of 12 or more teams heading into Week 10 at St. Louis.
Jacoby Jones, Walter each have 67 yards
Houston Texans WRs Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter each had 67 receiving yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis. Jones was good for four receptions, including a 45-yard gain, while Walter managed five catches.
Analysis: Jones and Walter attempted to pick up the slack with TE Owen Daniels (knee) injured and out for the season. The Texans will have two weeks to fine tune their offense with a bye coming up before returning for Monday Night Football against the Titans in Week 11."
Manningham back after injury
New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (shoulder) returned to the lineup after missing one game and he posted six grabs for 52 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers.
Analysis: Manningham is a solid No. 3 or 4 fantasy receiver or 'flex' option for Week 11 against the Falcons once the team returns from its bye.
Garcon active, posts 60 yards
Indianapolis Colts WR Pierre Garcon (ankle) was active in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans and he managed five reception for 60 yards.
Analysis: Garcon remains a solid No. 4 fantasy WR or 'flex' option heading into Week 10 against the Patriots, as Anthony Gonzalez (knee) has reportedly suffered a setback and might not be ready then.
Just two grabs for Malcom Floyd
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd made another start in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants, but he managed just two receptions for 29 yards.
Analysis: Floyd's emergence lately led to the departure of Chris Chambers, who had two TDs for his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs, in Jacksonville on Sunday. Floyd should be thought of more as a No. 4 fantasy WR or 'flex' option in Week 10 against Philadelphia.
Nicks totals 39 yards in loss
New York Giants rookie WR Hakeem Nicks racked up three receptions for 39 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss against San Diego.
Analysis: After a four-game scoring streak, Nicks has been held out of the end zone in two straight. The Giants are off in Week 10 before returning to action in Week 11 against the Falcons. He is best used as a No. 3 or 4 fantasy WR or 'flex' option for that favorable matchup.
Naanee reels in three balls
San Diego Chargers WR Legedu Naanee had three receptions for 20 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Naanee is now the team's No. 3 receiver, but he is only worth a look in the deepest of fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against the Eagles.
Camarillo finishes with 71 yards
Miami Dolphins WR Greg Camarillo posted five receptions for 71 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England, including a pretty one-handed grab on the final play of the game.
Analysis: Despite the solid yardage total, Camarillo is only worth a look in the deepest of fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Tampa Bay.
Jarrett, Moore do little for Panthers
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett, starting in place of the injured Muhsin Muhammad (knee), had four catches for 30 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans. Kenneth Moore added one catch for 22 yards.
Analysis: Neither of the two receivers are worth using in Week 10 at Atlanta if Moose is active. If the veteran misses another game, Jarrett is worth a look as a No. 4 fantasy WR in deeper leagues.
Ginn manages just one reception
Much-maligned Miami Dolphins WR Ted Ginn managed just one reception for only seven yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England. He also managed just 24 yards on four kickoff returns.
Analysis: The boobirds will be back for Ginn after this one, as his two kickoff return for TD performance at N.Y. Jets in Week 8 is already forgotten. Avoid using him in all standard fantasy leagues, but keep starting him in formats which reward return yardage.
Bess posts six grabs, 56 yards
Miami Dolphins second-year WR Davone Bess was good for six receptions for 56 yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England.
Analysis: Bess is best used only in deeper fantasy leagues as a No. 4 WR or 'flex' option in Week 10 against the Buccaneers.
Aiken totals just 17 yards
New England Patriots WR Sam Aiken posted two receptions for just 17 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Aiken is only worth a look in the deepest of fantasy leagues at this point. The Patriots meet the Colts in Indianapolis in Week 10.
Rookie Collie good for two grabs
Indianapolis Colts rookie WR Austin Collie managed two receptions for 26 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans.
Analysis: Anthony Gonzalez (knee) reportedly suffered some sort of setback in his recovery from knee surgery, so Collie is likely to remain the team's No. 3 WR through at least Week 10 against the Patriots. However, he is only worth a look as a No. 4 fantasy receiver or 'flex' option in deeper leagues at this point.
Chambers catches 2 TDs in debut
Chiefs WR Chris Chambers, who was acquired off waivers from the Chargers this week, caught three passes for a season-high 70 yards, including two for touchdowns, in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Further proof that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Chambers had his best game of the season in his first game with the WR-desperate Chiefs. Facing the Raiders next week, Chambers could be a decent third fantasy WR option.
Sims-Walker has another big day
Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker caught six passes for a season-high 147 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Despite a very disappointing game last week, Sims-Walker recorded his third 100-yard game of the season and has four touchdowns on the season, making him one of the best waiver-wire pickups of 2009. However, he faces a tough Jets defense in Week 10, so play him at your own risk.
Bowe has decent outing
Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe caught four passes for 74 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Bowe put up big yards despite just having four possessions, which can mean that the edition of Chris Chambers is easing up coverage against the third-year man. In Week 10, he faces a the lowly Raiders, whom he caught a TD pass against in Week 2, so starting him would be a good play.
Long has best game of season
Chiefs WR Lance Long had his best game of the season, catching a game-high eight passes for 74 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Long, who saw action in just his third games this season, saw the most passes out of any Chiefs receivers and didn’t disappoint. It’s hard to recommend picking up for his contest next week against the Raiders, but it is recommended that you monitor him. He could turn out to be a late-season waiver wire sleeper.
Holt catches 4 passes in win
Jaguars WR Torry Holt caught four passes for 37 yards in Sunday’s win over the Cheifs.
Analysis: Holt has yet to score a TD pass this season, which has killed his fantasy value this season despite back to back games on 95 and 101 yards in Week 5 and 6. You have to think he’ll be due soon enough with the Jags low on receiving option. Even still play him at your own risk from here on out.
Q inactive for the Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game at Chicago. Steve Breaston (knee) is healthy enough and will start opposite Larry Fitzgerald. Jerheme Urban will serve as the No. 3 receiver.
Analysis: Reserve Boldin in all fantasy leagues. This is not much of a surprise considering he has been anything but 100 percent in the past two games, hardly being able to cut off of his injured ankle. We'll see if a week of rest gets him back onto the practice field and in full participation heading into Week 10.
WR White active for Falcons
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (knee) is active for Sunday's Week 9 game against the Redskins and the NFL's No. 2 rated pass defense.
Analysis: White may be healthy enough to play, but White faces a difficult matchup against Washington's surprisingly stout secondary. He is more of a No. 2 or 3 fantasy WR or 'flex' option for this one. White has scored five TDs during his current four-game scoring streak.
Hester not among the inactives
Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester (ankle) is not among the inactives for Sunday's Week 9 game against the Cardinals despite missing practice time this week.
Analysis: Hester and the Bears will be working against a very giving Cardinals pass defense. He is worth a look as a No. 3 or 4 fantasy WR or 'flex' option for this favorable game.
Bryant inactive for the Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have declared WR Antonio Bryant (knee) inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game against the Packers.
Analysis: That's tough news for rookie QB Josh Freeman, making his first NFL start. Rookie Sammie Stroughter will line up opposite Michael Clayton in Bryant's absence.
Wade is a healthy inactive
Kansas City Chiefs WR Bobby Wade has been declared inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game at Jacksonville despite being healthy.
Analysis: Wade is a healthy scratch after the team just claimed Chris Chambers from the San Diego Chargers this week. If you normally depend on Wade in deeper fantasy leagues, cut him immediately.
White has a slow game against Washington
Falcons WR Roddy White caught three passes for just 27 yards against a highly effective Redskins pass defense in Week 9.
Analysis: White will go up against CB Chris Gamble and the Panthers in Week 10 and it won’t be another easy week for the Falcons pass game.
Moss held under 50 yards in loss to Falcons
Redskins WR Santana Moss ended Week 9 with just 47 yards on five receptions.
Analysis: Moss keeps picking up yards in poor time and is better off on your bench in fantasy in Week 10 against a tough Broncos secondary.
Just three grabs for Derrick Mason
Derrick Mason caught just three passes for 31 yards at Cincinnati Sunday. He was targeted 13 times though.
Analysis: The Bengals held the Ravens’ passing game in check for most of the game, limiting the entire offense to just under 20 minutes of possession. The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night. He caught five passes for 118 yards and a TD against the Browns in Week 3.
Mark Clayton catches one pass
Mark Clayton caught just one pass for 15 yards at Cincinnati Sunday.
Analysis: The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night. Clayton still isn’t a good fantasy option – even against the Browns.
Ochocinco makes five catches
Chad Ochocinco caught five passes for 66 yards against Baltimore Sunday.
Analysis: Ochocinco was targeted nine times in the game. Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10. He caught five passes for 54 yards against them in Week 3.
Henry leaves game with broken forearm
Chris Henry left Sunday’s game in the first half against Baltimore with a broken left forearm.
Analysis: Henry’s season hasn’t been what everyone thought it would be. He’ll enter 2010 once again as a big question mark for the Bengals. Andre Caldwell should receive even more attention.
Andre Caldwell scores again
Andre Caldwell caught three passes for 15 yards, including a touchdown. He was thrown to five times.
Analysis: Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10, but with Chris Henry (forearm) out, Caldwell will receive more looks.
Palmer looks to Coles nine times
Laveranues Coles caught six passes for 72 yards – both team highs – against Baltimore Sunday.
Analysis: Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10, so Coles is not a recommended fantasy option.
Breaston scores in Boldin’s place
Steve Breaston caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown, while starting in Anquan Boldin’s (knee) place at Chicago Sunday.
Analysis: Breaston is an excellent fantasy starter in this offense – when he starts. He’s a pretty good flex option even when he’s not starting. Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. He caught seven passes for 77 yards and a score in Week 6 against Seattle.
Two TDs, 123 yards for Fitzgerald
Larry Fitzgerald caught nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns at Chicago Sunday.
Analysis: Fitzgerald was thrown to 13 times, with Anquan Boldin (knee) watching from the sidelines. Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10, so keep No. 11 active. He had 100 yards and a TD against them in Week 6.
Four catches for Knox
Johnny Knox caught four passes for 30 yards against Arizona Sunday.
Analysis: Knox was only thrown to six times. The Bears play at San Francisco in Week 10, but Knox is better as a fantasy reserve.
Cutler throws to Bennett 11 times
Earl Bennett caught seven passes for 93 yards against Arizona Sunday. He was thrown to 11 times.
Analysis: Bennett matched his career-high (from Week 1), but he’s not consistent enough to warrant starting in Week 10 at San Francisco.
Hester leads Bears receivers again
Devin Hester caught six passes for a team-high 94 yards against Arizona Sunday. He was thrown to a team-high 12 times.
Analysis: Hester might not score much (one touchdown in his past five games), but he’s great in PPR leagues 27 catches in his past four games. Keep him active in Week 10 at San Francisco.
Driver scores again vs. Bucs
Donald Driver caught four passes for 71 yards at Tampa Bay Sunday, despite being covered by former Pro Bowler Ronde Barber.
Analysis: Driver has scored in four of his eight games this season, and we recommend starting him again in Week 10 against Dallas.
Jennings catches five balls
Greg Jennings caught five passes for 61 yards at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Jennings was thrown to a game-high 10 times, but could only haul in half that many. Keep him active in Week 10 against Dallas.
James Jones eclipses 100-yard mark
James Jones caught four passes for 103 yards and a touchdown against the Buccaneers Sunday. It was a 74-yard touchdown catch.
Analysis: Jones was thrown to six times in the game. He’s more of an emergency-replacement type of a fantasy player for Week 10 against Dallas.
Rookie Stroughter scores vs. Packers
Sammie Stroughter caught three passes for 19 yards and a touchdown against Green Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Stroughter, a rookie that worked his way into the starting lineup, is still not someone to consider at Miami in most fantasy formats in Week 10. He was thrown to four times.
Titans Gaged in
Tennessee WR Justin Gage was targeted eight times in Week 9, catching four of them for 97 yards but failed to find the end zone.
Analysis: Prior to Week 9 Gage had just 205 yards and one TD. Maybe having Vince Young back under center will get the offense clicking. The Titans host the Bills next week and they have a tough pass defense. Gage won’t be a big-time player in fantasy leagues, but if you own him it might be wise to bench him.
Washington nabs three passes
WR Nate Washington had three catches for 30 yards in Week 9 as the Titans beat the 49ers.
Analysis: Much like Gage, Washington doesn’t have a lot of fantasy value except in extremely deep leagues. With Buffalo in town next week starting Washington could be a risky move. The Bills are ranked 11th in the league in pass defense.
WR Hill breaks out for 49ers
Third-year WR Jason Hill had four catches for 50 yards and two scores in Week 9 against the Titans. This was the first game Hill’s caught a ball in, so this was his breakout game of the season.
Analysis: It is unclear if Hill will continue to get looks in the 49ers offense, but he caught every pass thrown his way. Besides TE Vernon Davis and rookie WR Michael Crabtree San Fran doesn’t have any WRs that are stepping up this season. Monitor Hill, but don’t get crazy and pick him up just yet.
No TDs for Crabtree
Rookie Michael Crabtree failed to score his first NFL touchdown Sunday, but he did catch three passes for 30 yards. He was targeted eight times, but didn’t make the most of his chances.
Analysis: This was Crabtree’s worst outing of his three-game career, but with the Bears coming to town for a Thursday night matchup in Week 10 Crabtree and the 49ers could break out for big games. Chicago gave up five TDs to QB Kurt Warner and the Cardinals in Week 9.
WR Morgan not proving his worth
San Francisco WR Josh Morgan was targeted seven times in Week 9, but had just two catches for nine yards.
Analysis: Morgan has been given chances to step up this season, but hasn’t excelled as he has just 18 catches for 267 yards and one TD. In deep leagues Morgan has a little value, but until he finds a niche on this team his value won’t go up much. In Week 10 against Chicago, Morgan would be a risky start.
Veteran WR Bruce sees little action
San Francisco WR Isaac Bruce had one catch for three yards against Tennessee in Week 9 and was targeted just twice.
Analysis: Bruce was drafted in fantasy leagues late in hopes he could be a leader on this young team. To date he has 241 yards receiving on 19 catches and no TDs. With rookie WR Michael Crabtree on the active roster and other WRs getting playing time the veteran is on borrowed time, which means he has very little fantasy value even in deep leagues.
Three catches for Stovall
Maurice Stovall caught three passes for 46 yards against the Packers Sunday.
Analysis: Stovall saw more action because Antonio Bryant (knee) was still sidelined. Don’t use Stovall in most fantasy formats.
Tight ends
Witten leads game in receptions
Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught a game-high seven passes for 43 yards in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Witten hasn’t had a TD since Week 2, but he is averaging over five receptions and almost 50 yards per game this season, which is great for a TE. He’s a solid starter from week to week, he just needs an increase in touchdowns, which is bound to happen.
Celek catches Philly’s only TD
Eagles TE Brent Celek caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: With four touchdowns and 40 receptions on the season, Celek is a definite fantasy starter in any league, regardless of who he plays. There aren’t many better options at TE out there.
Rookie Pettigrew has big game in loss
Lions rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew caught seven passes for 70 yards and a touchdown – the first of NFL career – in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Pettigrew hasn’t really been lighting it up out there, but catching his first TD pass is a good start, as well as his best game of the season to date. He may not be a consistent fantasy option this year – especially in Week 10 against the Vikings – but he definitely has the potential to do so in the future.
Carlson gets some work
Seahawks TE John Carlson caught six passes for 42 yards in Sunday’s win over the Lions.
Analysis: Carlson hasn’t had a TD since he had two in Week 1, but he’s been pretty consistent since then, averaging 40 receiving yards per game since then. Another couple of touchdowns really aren’t out of the question for this low-end fantasy option. It helps that he faces a suspect Cards defense in Week 10.
Fitzsimmons is Lions’ second-leading receiver Sunday
Lions TE Casey Fitzsimmons was second on the team in receptions and receiving yards – behind fellow TE Brandon Pettigrew – amassing six for 48 in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawk.
Analysis: Fitzsimmons doubled his total production for the season in this game alone. All this says is that he’s not a viable fantasy option from week to week.
Clark racked up 14 receptions
Indianapolis Colts TE Dallas Clark managed 14 receptions for 119 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans, although he didn't get into the end zone.
Analysis: Clark was outstanding, as he had managed six receptions during a first quarter scoring drive to set the tone for the day. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against the Patriots.
Gates has game-high 67 yards
San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates posted five receptions for a game-high 67 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Gates has gone four straight games without a score since finding the end zone twice in Week 4 at Pittsburgh. However, he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Philadelphia.
Shockey finishes with three grabs
New Orleans Saints TE Jeremy Shockey managed three receptions for 26 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers and he did not get into the end zone.
Analysis: The yardage total was a season-low and Shockey has now gone three straight games without a score, tying a season-long stretch. He remains a solid low-end No. 1 fantasy TE for Week 10 at St. Louis against the Rams' poor pass defense.
Watson had four grabs in Week 9
New England Patriots TE Benjamin Watson had four receptions for 49 yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against Miami, although he was unable to get into the end zone.
Analysis: Watson has been a little erratic and should only be used in the deepest of fantasy leagues despite the fact he has several scores on the season. The Patriots meet the Colts in Week 10 at Indianapolis and Watson should only be considered in the deepest of formats.
Boss posts 17 yards, score
New York Giants TE Kevin Boss (ankle) shook off injury to start in Sunday's Week 9 game against the Chargers and he managed two receptions for 17 yards and a score.
Analysis: After going without a score in the first six games, Boss has found the end zone in two straight games. He remains more of a No. 2 fantasy option, however. You'll need a replacement in Week 10 with the Giants on a bye.
Fasano, Haynos do very little
Miami Dolphins TE Anthony Fasano had one reception for 20 yards and Joey Haynos had three grabs for 29 yards and a TD in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England.
Analysis: Fasano was a fantasy darling in 2008 because of his multitude of scores, but he has next to nothing this season. Haynos was decent on Sunday, but he does not do this consistently. Avoid both players in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Tampa Bay, as Miami's offense should be primarily ground-based in that one anyway.
Barnidge posted 46 yards
Carolina Panthers TE Gary Barnidge made the most of his opportunity with Dante Rosario (knee) inactive in Week 9 at New Orleans. He finished with three grabs for 46 yards.
Analysis: Barnidge has six grabs for 123 yards over the past two games, but he is still only worth a look in the deepest of fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Atlanta.
Dreessen gets start, does little
Houston Texans TE Joel Dreessen made the start in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis, officially taking his spot at the top of the depth chart in place of the injured Owen Daniels (knee surgery). Dreessen managed two receptions for just 15 yards.
Analysis: Dreessen is nowhere near the threat that Daniels has been and he should be avoided in all fantasy leagues despite his new starting status. The Texans have a bye in Week 10 anyway.
Pope catches third pass of season
Redskins TE Leonard Pope caught one pass for five yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Pope is primarily a blocking TE as evidenced by having just three receptions on the season. Needless to say, he should never be a fantasy option.
Lewis has another disappointing game
Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis caught just one pass for three yards in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: This game is the low-point of a highly inconsistent fantasy season for Lewis. His two best games of the season (Week 2 and Week 4) were also the only two games in which he scored a touchdown. At this point in the season, you’re playing him at your own risk – especially against the Jets in Week 10.
Finley inactive again for Pack
The Green Bay Packers have declared TE Jermichael Finley (knee) inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game at Tampa Bay, his second straight game on the sidelines.
Analysis: With Finley still on the mend, Donald Lee and the surprising Spencer Havner will handle the TE duties against the poor Buccaneers D.
Rosario inactive for Week 9
The Charlotte Observer is reporting that the Carolina Panthers will once again be without TE Dante Rosario (knee) for Sunday's Week 9 game at New Orleans.
Analysis: With Rosario still on the mend, Jeff King and Gary Barnidge will handle the TE duties for the Cats. However, neither is worthy of any fantasy consideration.
Winslow hauls in a TD Sunday
Kellen Winslow Jr. caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown against Green Bay Sunday. He was thrown to five times.
Analysis: Winslow and Josh Freeman have an excellent rapport, and the rookie QB has even stated that the tight end is the receiver he trusts the most. Keep Winslow active in Week 10 at Miami.
Donald Lee catches one pass
Donald Lee caught one ball for five yards at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Lee doesn’t do enough to warrant fantasy consideration in Week 10 against Dallas.
Three TDs for Olsen vs. Cards
Greg Olsen caught five passes for 71 yards, including three touchdowns against the Cardinals Sunday.
Analysis: Olsen caught touchdowns of varying lengths (33 yards, 20 yards and three yards). Keep him active in Week 10 at San Francisco.
Becht, Patrick score for Cardinals
TEs Anthony Becht and Ben Patrick caught touchdown passes from Kurt Warner at Chicago Sunday.
Analysis: Neither tight end is really worth using in fantasy play. Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10.
Todd Heap goes for 28 yards
Todd Heap caught three passes for 28 yards at Cincinnati Sunday.
Analysis: Heap has caught more than four balls just twice this season. The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night. Heap caught four balls for 41 yards against them in Week 3.
TE V. Davis eclipses century mark receiving
San Francisco TE Vernon Davis had 102 yards receiving on 10 catches in Week 9, but his 49ers lost to the Titans 34-27.
Analysis: This was Davis’ first 100-yard game of the season, but failed to score. Fantasy owners have been very happy with his performance so far this year as he is out performing some of the elite TEs in the league. Keep this young stud in your lineup.
Titans’ TE gets two catches
Tennessee TE Bo Scaife had two catches for 20 yards in the Titans Week 9 win over San Francisco.
Analysis: Scaife has been a big disappoint in fantasy terms as he was ranked highly on most draft boards. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Scaife hasn’t caught a TD pass yet and has been hampered by injuries. Little value here, but he could be a steal in next year’s fantasy drafts.
Kickers
Akers perfect on FG tries
Eagles K David Akers hit all three of his field goal attempts in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. He also made his only extra point try.
Analysis: Akers is known for his accuracy and his range, which makes him a great fantasy option from week to week.
Folk makes all tries
Cowboys K Nick Folk was 2 of 2 on his field goal attempts and 2 of 2 on his extra point tries in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Analysis: The K of a high-powered offense is a fantasy owner’s best friend. As a bonus, Folk is good from long range too.
Mare perfect on 4 FG tries
Seahawks K Olindo Mare made all four of his field goal tries and both his extra points in Sunday’s win over the Lions.
Analysis: Mare has missed just two field goals all season and that was back in Week 3 when he attempted six. He’s a decent fantasy option every week, averaging two field goals and two PATs every game.
Hanson misses early FG
Lions K Jason Hanson hit 2 of 3 field goal attempts in Sundays loss to the Seahawks. He also his both his extra point tries.
Analysis: Hanson has missed just two FG tries this season, but he didn’t even get an attempt in his two games before this week. You may want to look for other kickers.
Gostkowski totals 13 points
New England Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski totaled four field goals (30, 38, 34, 40) in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins and he added an extra point.
Analysis: Gostkowski has been consistently solid and one of the best fantasy kickers around this season. He remains a must-start in all leagues heading into Week 10 at Indianapolis.
Stover good for eight points
Indianapolis Colts K Matt Stover made a pair of field goals (22, 37) in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans and he added two extra points.
Analysis: Stover has been a solid fill-in for Adam Vinatieri (knee), who is still likely out at least another few weeks. He is a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against the Patriots.
Kaeding has just three points
San Diego Chargers K Nate Kaeding managed just three extra points and no field goal attempts in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Despite the off game, Kaeding remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 against Philadelphia.
Tynes totals eight points in loss
New York Giants K Lawrence Tynes had two field goals (38, 22) and a pair of extra points in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers.
Analysis: Tynes remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues, although you'll need to find a replacement in Week 10 with the G-Men on a bye. They return in Week 11 against the Falcons.
Kasay totals eight points
Carolina Panthers K John Kasay booted two field goals (32, 25) and he added two extra points in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans.
Analysis: Kasay has been a little bit better of a fantasy option lately and is worth a look as a low-end No. 1 kicker heading into Week 10 against the Falcons.
Carney totals 12 points vs. Carolina
New Orleans Saints K John Carney was good for three field goals (23, 25, 40) and three extra points in a Week 9 win against the Panthers.
Analysis: With the high-octane Saints offense hitting on all cylinders, Carney remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues. It should be another high-scoring performance in Week 10 at St. Louis against the lowly Rams.
Kris Brown totals five points
Houston Texans K Kris Brown misfired on one of his two field goals in Week 9 at Indianapolis, but he was true on a 56-yarder. Brown also managed two extra points.
Analysis: Brown is a decent fantasy option more often than not, although you'll need an alternative heading into Week 10 with Houston on a bye.
Carpenter has career-long 52-yard FG
Miami Dolphins K Dan Carpenter made a career-long 52-yard field goal in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England and he also added two extra points.
Analysis: Carpenter is only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues heading into Week 10, as the Dolphins have a favorable matchup against the Buccaneers.
Succop recovers onside kick
Chiefs K Ryan Succop hit 2 of 3 field goal attempts and nailed his only extra point try in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. He also recovered an onside kick late in the fourth quarter that led to touchdown that cut his team’s deficit to three points.
Analysis: Succop is a decent fantasy backup, but that’s about it. The fact that he plays for a pretty anemic offense kills his potential for attempts (11 of 14 on the year).
Scobee makes a FG, misses a FG
Jaguars K Josh Scobee hit 1 of 2 field goal tries in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs. He also made three extra points.
Analysis: Scobee hasn’t been too accurate this season, missing five of his 13 tries. If you own him, you’d be better off finding a replacement.
Hauschka misses wide left
Steve Hauschka missed his only field goal attempt, wide left from 38 yards out at Cincinnati Sunday. He did make his only extra-point attempt, however.
Analysis: Hauschka should do better this week. The Ravens have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night, but he’s still not worth starting.
Graham kicks for five points
Shayne Graham made a 23-yard field goal and two extra-point attempts against Baltimore Sunday.
Analysis: Cincinnati has a tough matchup at Pittsburgh in Week 10, so look elsewhere for a fantasy kicker.
Rackers gets lots of work Sunday
Neil Rackers was successful on two field goals and five extra-point attempts Sunday at Chicago. He made 30- and a 43-yarders.
Analysis: Rackers is an excellent fantasy kicker because the Cardinals get in scoring position often. Arizona hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10.
Gould kicks for three extra points
Robbie Gould missed his only field-goal attempt (48 yards), but he did make all three extra-point attempts against Arizona Sunday.
Analysis: Gould has kicked more than two field goals just once this season, but he’s still worth using in 12-team fantasy leagues at San Francisco in Week 10 because Jay Cutler has this offense improving.
Four extra points for Crosby
Mason Crosby was successful on all four extra-point attempts at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: Crosby didn’t get many chances, since the Bucs defense was hounding QB Aaron Rodgers all day. Keep Crosby active in Week 10 against Dallas.
Barth connects on one, misses one
Connor Barth was good on a 38-yard field goal and three extra points against Green Bay Sunday. He did, however, miss from 45 yards out, wide right.
Analysis: Barth is not worth picking up in most fantasy formats for Week 10 at Miami. These were his first points of the season after recently getting signed to replace Shane Andrus.
Bironas perfect on the day
Tennessee K Rob Bironas hit both his field goal attempts and connected on all four extra point attempts in Tennessee’s 34-27 win over San Francisco in Week 9.
Analysis: Bironas hasn’t put up monster numbers this season, but he is still one of the best kickers in the game and should be on your fantasy team, especially with the Titans on a win streak.
Nedney hits 40-yarder in loss
Veteran K Joe Nedney hit two field goals, the long being a 40-yarder,, and all three extra point attempts, but San Francisco still lost the game to the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.
Analysis: Nedney is a consistent kicker and is owned in some fantasy leagues, but hasn’t had many field attempts this season bringing his value down.
Defense/special teams
Colts D allows just 17 points
The Indianapolis Colts defense allowed just 17 points and 382 total net yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Texans. The Colts also totaled two sacks and two interceptions. LB Clint Session managed 13 solo tackles and one assist, while also recording an INT.
Analysis: The Colts DST lost Bob Sanders (elbow) to a season-ending injury this week, but they were pretty good without him earlier in the season. They're a low-end No. 1 fantasy option in most matchups, although you might want to go another way in Week 10 against the Patriots.
Saints D allows 20 points, has DTD
The New Orleans Saints defense allowed 20 points in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Panthers and they posted another defensive score when DT Anthony Hargrove scooped up a fumble and returned it 1-yard for TD.
Analysis: The Saints DST remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 10 at St. Louis. The Saints defense actually has scored two more touchdowns than the Cleveland Browns have this season.
Panthers rocked for 30 points
The Carolina Panthers defense allowed 30 points and 414 total net yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New Orleans. LB Jon Beason led the way with 11 solo stops, including a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery.
Analysis: The Panthers DST is worth using when the matchup is favorable or your primary option has a poor matchup. Avoid them in Week 10 against the Falcons.
Patriots D holds Wildcat in check
The New England Patriots defense allowed just 17 points and 334 total yards in Sunday's Week 9 win against the Dolphins. The Patriots managed two sacks, but did not record any interceptions or fumble recoveries. LB Jerod Mayo, who was shaken up briefly but able to return, had seven solo tackles and five assists with one hurry.
Analysis: The Patriots were dismantled in shocking fashion by the Wildcat offense of the Dolphins last season, but they were mostly wise to the trick plays in this one. The Patriots DST is a must-start in all fantasy leagues more often than not, but you might want to find an alternative in Week 10 at Indianapolis.
Giants D allows late TD in loss
The New York Giants D allowed 21 points, including a game-winner TD to WR Vincent Jackson with :21 left, in Sunday's Week 9 loss against the Chargers. The Giants also allowed 226 total net yards while holding the Bolts to just 34 total yards on the ground. LB Michael Boley led the way with seven solo tackles, while DB Terrell Thomas also had seven solo stops, two assists and an interception.
Analysis: Despite the loss and four-game losing streak, the Giants DST remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues for Week 11 against the Falcons when the team returns from its bye.
Chargers D allows 20 points in W
The San Diego Chargers defense allowed 20 points and 304 total net yards in Sunday's Week 9 win at N.Y. Giants. The Bolts also racked up five sacks and a fumble recovery. DB Eric Weddle led the way with eight solo tackles, one assist and a tackle for loss.
Analysis: The Chargers D has been banged up along the defensive line, so their DST has been more of a mediocre fantasy option. Consider them a low-end No. 1 unit in Week 10 against Philadelphia.
Dolphins D allows 27 points in loss
The Miami Dolphins defense was gouged for 27 points and 432 total points in Sunday's Week 9 loss at New England. They also had two sacks and an interception. DB Yeremiah Bell managed six solo tackles, three assists and he chipped in with a special teams stop and assist.
Analysis: The Dolphins DST is only worth using as a bye week replacement or when the matchup is favorable. That's exactly what they face in Week 10 against the Buccaneers at Land Shark Stadium.
Texans D holds their own in Week 9
The Houston Texans defense allowed just 20 points and 378 total net yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss at Indianapolis. The Texans also had a pair of sacks and two interceptions. Rookie LB Brian Cushing led the way with 10 solo tackles, two assist, a tackle for loss and a pass defended.
Analysis: The Texans D has been improving, but they're still far from a fantasy option on a regular basis. They're off in Week 10 before returning against the Titans on Monday Night Football in Week 11.
Jaguars get torched late, still win
The Jaguars defense allowed 15 points late in the fourth quarter to the Chiefs, despite allowing just six before that point. They finished the game allowing 301 total net yards recoding three sacks and forcing no turnovers, but still got the win Sunday.
Analysis: The Jaguars defense has been torched big time this season, so you’re better off finding another defense if you haven’t already done so.
Chiefs sack Garrard just once
The Chiefs anemic pass rush record just one sack in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. They also forced and recovered two fumbles, but allowed 426 total net yards and three touchdowns.
Analysis: You should have the defense of a team that has just one win on the season. Just a simple rule of thumb.
Tye Hill puts up six for Falcons
CB Tye Hill intercepted a pass from Jason Campbell in the first quarter and ran it back 62 yards for a TD in the Falcons Week 9 win over Washington.
Analysis: The Falcons defense will need to capitalize off of interceptions against a 15th ranked Broncos offense in Week 10. This is a good DST start for Atlanta fantasy owners.
Buccaneers DST scores twice Sunday
The Bucs DST scored on a Ronde Barber blocked punt return for a TD and a Tanard Jackson INT return for a TD against Green Bay Sunday.
Analysis: The Buccaneers DST is not necessarily a useful one from a fantasy perspective, but they were able to take advantage of a beat-up Packers offensive line. Tampa Bay travels to South Florida to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 10, but the Bucs are not worth starting in fantasy play.
Packers DST gives up 38
The Packers DST gave up 38 points and 279 total net yards to Tampa Bay Sunday. The Bucs defense and special teams scored two touchdowns, so the Packers defense realistically only gave up 24 points. They did register one sack and one interception.
Analysis: The Packers host the Cowboys in Week 10, but Green Bay’s defense no longer a recommended fantasy option.
Bears DST get torched through the air
The Bears DST allowed five touchdown passes to Arizona’s Kurt Warner Sunday. They gave up 41 points and 438 total net yards.
Analysis: DT Tommie Harris got tossed for slugging an offensive lineman near the face after they ended up on the ground following a run play. This defense isn’t what it once was, but they should see more success at San Francisco in Week 10.
Cardinals DST sacks Cutler four times
The Cardinals DST allowed the Bears to score 17 points in Sunday’s win. They harassed Jay Cutler for four sacks, and kept the Bears rushing attack under 100 yards rushing.
Analysis: The Cardinals DST is a solid one in Week 10, as they host the Seahawks in Phoenix.
Titans D step up
Tennessee had four sacks, one fumble recovery and three picks in Week 9 helping the team win its second-straight game. One of the INTs was returned 39-yards by Cortland Finnegan for a score, sealing the victory for the Titans.
Analysis: The Titans defense is not the same unit without departed DT Albert Haynesworth, but this was a step back in the right direction. They aren’t worth picking up in fantasy leagues yet, but if anything else this is a good sign.
49ers lay an egg on D
San Francisco didn’t force a turnover in its Week 9 matchup with Tennessee, as the Titans beat the 49ers 34-27. San Fran did get one sack on the day too.
Analysis: It was not a pretty performance by any means, but San Fran does have some value in deep leagues mainly due to some matchups down the road. Unfortunately Chicago in Week 10 is not one of them. QB Jay Cutler could tear up the 49ers secondary for a big day.
Bengals DST shuts down passing game
The Bengals DST allowed just seven points and 215 total net yards to Baltimore Sunday. They registered two interceptions and four sacks.
Analysis: The Bengals DST has a tough outing ahead of them at Pittsburgh in Week 10. They gave up 373 yards to them in Week 3, so look elsewhere for a fantasy DST.
Ravens DST gives up 100 again
The Ravens DST gave up just 200 yards to the Broncos last week, but they gave up 369 yards and 17 points Sunday.
Analysis: The Ravens DST should have a much better outing this week. They have a great matchup at Cleveland in Week 10 on Monday night, so continue starting them.
Eagles sack Romo first time
The Eagles sacked Cowboys QB Tony Romo four times and intercepted one of his passes in Sunday’s loss. They allowed 358 total net yards and two offensive touchdowns.
Analysis: The Eagles have one of the most popular fantasy defenses around with their historical success. That hasn’t changed this year, because save for one blowout loss to the Saints, the defense has been very consistent.
Cowboys pick off McNabb twice
The Cowboys intercepted Eagles QB Donovan McNabb twice in Sunday’s win and sacked him four times, while allowing 297 total net yards.
Analysis: The Cowboys defense, allows a low amount of points per game (seventh in the league), but they don’t force too many turnovers or score touchdown. So hile they’re consistent, they don’t rack up too many points.
Seahawks harass rookie Stafford
The Seahawks may have sacked Lions rookie QB Matthew Stafford just twice in Sunday’s win, but they forced him to throw five interceptions, including a pick six. They also allowed 300 total net yards.
Analysis: The Seahawks did well against lowly Lions, but before today’s five interceptions, they had just three on the season. If you couple that with the fact that they play the Cardinals in Week 10, maybe they’re not that great of a fantasy option.
Lions feel the air assault
The Lions allowed just 55 yards rushing, but got torched for 342 yards through the air in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. They also forced two turnovers (one fumble and one interception), but only recorded one sack on QB Matt Hasselbeck.
Analysis: It’s the Lions’ defense. What more do you need to know?
