Key matchup: RB Brandon Jacobs vs. Broncos run defense
Denver’s run defense is 18th in the NFL, allowing 115.3 yards per game. Jacobs hasn’t cracked the century mark yet this season, but could on Thursday. If Jacobs gets on a roll, the Broncos are going to have a hard time winning.
|
Key matchup: Broncos secondary vs. QB Eli Manning
The Broncos have the No. 3 pass defense in the NFL. If Denver can keep Eli Manning from making plays, then the Giants running backs will be forced to carry the load and they haven’t shown this season that they can carry the team.

Weather report: Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s. West-southwest winds at 8 mph.
Xavi's Forecast: Broncos have lost four straight since their Week 7 bye and no thanks in part to QB Kyle Orton, who has not thrown a touchdown pass in three of the past four games and has quintupled his pre-bye interception total of one. Expect his struggles to continue against the No. 2 ranked Giants pass defense. Say what you will about QB Eli Manning and his inconsistencies, he’s actually on pace for career highs in passing yards, touchdown passes, completion percentage and QB rating, So don’t player hate, have him participate – on your team.
2009 Regular season rankings:
Giants defense: Total (2nd), rushing (11th), passing (2nd)
Broncos offense: Total (22nd), rushing (16th), passing (19th)
Giants offense: Total (4th), rushing (7th), passing (8th)
Broncos defense: Total (7th), rushing (18th), passing (3rd)
FOX Sports Power Rankings:
Giants: No.15
Broncos: No.9
Injury report: GIANTS: OUT: RB Ahmad Bradshaw (ankles, foot), LB Antonio Pierce (neck). PROBABLE: QB Eli Manning (foot). BRONCOS: OUT: T Ryan Harris (toe), RB LaMont Jordan (back). PROBABLE: S Brian Dawkins (neck), QB Kyle Orton (ankle).
Shaw's analysis: The Kyle Orton injury is really hurting the Broncos. Even if he takes the field, we saw that he is playing injured, which tips the balance in the favor of the G-Men who happen to be putting up big numbers behind an Eli Manning in his prime.
Marc Lawrence: DEN -- G-men no longer King of the Road.
Gonos' Fantasy Four Downs:
- Eli Manning threw his first 300-yard game at home last week, but the Broncos pose a much tougher threat than the Falcons pass defense. Denver ranks third against the pass.
- Brandon Jacobs has yet to rush for 100 yards in a game this season, and he has just two touchdowns in his past seven games.
- After getting off to a great start to the season (nine TDs to one INT in his first six games), Kyle Orton has just two TDs and four INTs in his past four games since their bye week.
- While the Giants rush defense ranks in the top 12 in yards allowed (104.8), they have allowed 14 rushing TDs, which is more than 28 other NFL teams.
