I know the NBA draft is just two rounds, but there are many players taken in the second round that have had good NBA careers. I know it might be challenging, but I’ll try to make an all-star team from these picks. Seeing how I am a busy man, I’ll only go back to the 2000 draft for this blog.

Michael Redd* – drafted by Milwaukee in 2000 with the 43rd pick
Gilbert Arenas* – drafted by Golden State in 2001 with the 31st pick
Trevor Ariza – drafted by New York in 2004 with the 44th pick
Carlos Boozer* – drafted by Cleveland in 2002 with the 35th pick
Roger Mason – drafted by Chicago in 2002 with the 31st pick
Paul Millsap* – drafted by Utah in 2006 with the 47th pick
Glen Davis – drafted by Seattle in 2007 with the 35th pick
Ramon Sessions – drafted by Milwaukee in 2007 with the 55th pick
Marcin Gortat – drafted by Phoenix in 2005 with the 57th pick
Mehmet Okur* – drafted by Detroit in 2001 with the 38th pick
Rasual Butler – drafted by Miami in 2002 with the 53rd pick
Mo Williams – drafted by Utah in 2003 with the 47th pick

After reviewing this team, one would think that I am a Jazz fan. But you would be incorrect. It just worked out that way. So now comes the explanation of the picks, because I’m sure some not everyone will agree with me.

Michael Redd is the heart of the Bucks. When he is in the game he is a big time scoring threat. His career points per game is 20.5.

Gilbert Arenas is a great ball player when he is healthy. The Wizards need him to produce on the court after signing his huge deal. Agent 0 averages 22.8 points and 5.5 assists in his seven years in the NBA.

Carlos Boozer is looking for a big pay day this offseason. He is a good post player that has averaged a double-double so far in his career – 16.8 points and 10 boards respectively.

Paul Millsap has just three years in the league, but the potential for him to be great is there. He’s missed just six games in those years and that is someone I want on my team.

Mehmet Okur is a consistent player and has the ability to bring the opposing teams’ big man out of the paint.

Now onto the bench, but I’ll keep these quick for you.

Roger Mason hit a shitload of 3’s last year and is a spark plug off the bench. Trevor Ariza is a great defender and as we all saw in the Finals, can hit clutch shots. Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis showed glimpses of greatness in the playoffs. A solid role player that can step up when needed. Ramon Sessions turned the Bulls around after being traded there.

Marcin Gortat is a good backup center. Rasual Butler is a great role player and is going to be the key if New Orleans makes a playoff run next year. I think he is underrated. Mo Williams is a new player on the Cavs, so I’d have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he’d be good on this team too.
