ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs will release RB Larry Johnson Monday.

One day after losing a close game in Jacksonville without the suspended running back, the team has finally decided to move on without him on the roster. Can you blame them? He recently made some disparaging comments about head coach Todd Haley, who never played college or pro football, and went to college on a golf scholarship. Johnson also made two anti-gay slurs involving Haley.

Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith combined to average over five yards per carry Sunday – almost double Johnson’s 2.7 ypc average this year.

Johnson’s career with the Chiefs ends just 74 yards shy of breaking the franchise rushing mark (held by his predecessor, Priest Holmes).

Here are Johnson’s options, now that he essentially got what he wished for – to no longer play for Haley:

Chubbs Peterson

  • Sign with another team … that doesn’t mind a veteran running back with a big mouth, that’s obviously lost a step. Oakland already has like 12 running backs splitting carries, though. There were reports that the Patriots were looking at trading for L.J. before the deadline, but that was before his stupidity overflowed into the media.
  • He could counsel young teenagers on how to get what you want by making inappropriate anit-gay sentiments about authority figures.
  • Retire -- and pick up golf. He could get some lessons from a golf pro that once played pro football, like Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers played with the Raiders in the ‘70s).
  • L.J. could purchase a Canadian Football League team, and hire his father as the coach, then he can finally play for the man he said could outcoach Haley … and likely still be able to beat the Chiefs.

Would LJ play for the Pats? I don't know if Belichick went to college on a golf scholarship per say, but he's never played either.

Then again, Belichick looooves those reclamation projects.
